No matter the eye shape, there’s an art to lashes that’s rarely found in anything one-size-fits-all. For East Asian eyes, the right strip lash has never been about changing how you look; rather, refining what’s already there. For too long, beauty has been obsessed with “opening up” hooded lids or creating the illusion of a double crease but in truth, monolids, hooded lids and softly tapered eyes each hold their own beauty. The goal isn’t transformation, it’s enhancement: lifting, defining and celebrating your beautiful features. For any makeup artist worth taking inspiration from, preserving the integrity of your natural shape should always come first.
The Beauty Class Moodboard: Maria Moon
Makeup artist Maria Moon captured this perfectly in a recent post:
“Growing up, I used to feel self-conscious about my eyes. Over time, I learned I can’t control what others see, but I can choose how I see myself. My job as your makeup artist is to showcase your beautiful uniqueness.”
In her look, she used Eylure No. 5 ultra-light lashes, a delicate, weightless style that defines her eyes while enhancing their shape.
Lighter Bands
A thick, inky lash band might look dramatic in the packet but can dominate a petite eyelid. For smaller or hooded eyes, it’s simply too much. Instead, opt for fine, flexible bands, ideally clear or invisible, that melt into the lash line. They move with the blink, not against it, and eliminate that infuriating lift at the corners.
Think Wispy
For East Asian eyes, dense lashes can flatten the gaze, while air and texture create lift. Choose soft, wispy styles with staggered fibres that grow subtly toward the outer corner. Multi-layered or feathered lashes bring in depth without weight, a reminder that, as ever, less is probably more.
Shape Matters
Different eye shapes call for different lash architecture:
Monolids: Crisscross or softly flared designs give a gentle lift and texture.
Hooded eyes: Shorter lengths with a natural curl open the eye without brushing the brow bone.
Tapered or almond shapes: A cat-eye lash, longer at the outer corner, enhances the natural rise.
Round eyes: Rounded lashes with the longest strands in the centre lend that Bambi-eyed softness.

All in the Application
A medium curl (C to D) blends beautifully with straighter natural lashes, offering lift without the brittle stiffness of extreme curls. Trim from the outer edge (never the inner) for a tailored fit. Even a millimetre can shift the entire balance. Finish by pressing the strip as close as possible to your lash line, then sweep on a light coat of mascara to fuse the lashes together.
